The Danville Planning and Zoning Commission meeting Thursday evening (Sept 5th) will include discussion about possibly capping the number of business licenses for cannabis dispensaries in Danville at the current number of three. Danville currently has Seven Point of Illinois, Sunnyside, and the approved but yet to be built MariWorks LLC nuEra dispensary, scheduled to be combined with a truck stop.
Seven Point of Illinois CEO Brad Zerman says if you look at what has happened with an oversaturation of dispensaries elsewhere, the commission would be right at leaving the amount of licenses at three.
AUDIO: There’s too many cities in Michigan, where the dispensaries have shuttered up and down the street, because of oversaturation with cannabis. Adding more dispensaries will not increase the market. The market will stay the same as it is.
Zerman says that as an independent dispensary operator, businesses such as Seven Point would have little chance of surviving in a sea of publicly traded companies operating in multiple states.
A recommendation by the commission would mean only a simple majority is needed from the Danville City Council to put the change in effect. Thursday evening’s Danville Planning and Zoning Commission meeting begins at 5:15 PM, in the City Council Chambers.
