September is Library Card Sign-Up Month! This year’s theme is Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye. Sign up for a library card in September for a limited-edition Transformers-inspired DPL card cover! Transformers-inspired card cover upgrades are available to the first 300 applicants only.
Rubber Ducky Readers: Join this fun Beanstack Challenge! For every 10 books read, the child will get a rubber duck, every 100 books equal a book, a sticker and a certificate, 1000 books equal a goody bag filled with a book, a sticker, a completion certificate, a stuffed animal, a blow-up rubber duck, etc. This challenge is for ages 0-6.
Diversify Your Reading Challenge: In a reading rut? Expand your reading horizons by completing one or all of our challenges! Finish a challenge to earn a custom poster! This challenge is for teens and adults, ages 13 and up. August 1, 2024 – August 1, 2025
September 15: A Novel Idea – Goosebumps: The Musical. Get ready to step into the spine-tingling world of R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps with our upcoming production of “Goosebumps: The Musical”! In partnership with the Danville Public Library and the Danville Library Foundation the Spotlight Performing Arts team is so excited to bring this show to the Danville community on the DACC Bremer Center stage. September 13 & 14 at 7 pm, and September 15 at 2 pm. DACC Bremer Center, 2000 E. Main St., Danville, IL 61832. This show is free to the public!
September 16: Children’s Wonder Garden Club. Gardening event for children and families. 4:30 PM in the 1st Floor Meeting Room. This program is made possible through a partnership with the University of Illinois Extension Office. This month, we will be learning about apples!
September 17: Tween It! Tuesdays. Fun programs for tweens each Tuesday. This week: Break a record. Choose a Guinness World Record and try to break it. 4:30 pm in the Rutan Room (Former Bookstore). Ages 8-12.
September 17: Wee Wigglers Story Time. Join us for action rhymes, stories, and songs for children ages 5 and under—Tuesdays at 10:00 am in the Rutan Room (Former Bookstore).
September 17: Monthly Teen Party: Come hang out for our teen monthly party! Have some snacks and play games! 4:00 pm in the Teen Zone.
September 17: Vermilion County Master Gardeners. Join Vermilion County Master Gardeners for a seminar at Danville Public Library at 6 p.m. in the 1st Floor Meeting Room. Call 217-442-8615 for more information.
September 18: Rainbow Playgroup. Socialization, play, and STEAM activities for toddlers. Wednesdays 10 am- 11 am. 1st Floor Meeting Room.
September 18: Wordy Wednesdays. Puzzle lovers, mark your calendars! Every Wednesday, head on up to the 2nd-floor Reference Desk for a variety of word puzzles. Available anytime during our regular business hours.
September 19: Anything Tech for Teens. Introducing teens to some of the library’s cool technology, including 3D Printing, 3D Pens, Sphero Balls, Cricut, and a Flight Simulator. Thursdays at 4:00 pm in the Teen Zone.
September 19: Talk Like a Pirate Day. Put on your best pirate gear and join the library for Talk Like a Pirate Day! Uncover buried treasure, discover your pirate name, and find a pirate book. 8:30 am – 7:00 pm in the Children’s Department.
September 19: Family Bilingual Storytime. Come join us for stories, songs, and rhymes in Spanish and English. 4:30 PM to 5:00 PM in the Children’s Department.
September 21: Hear It, See It, Make It, Take It: Sensory Story Time. Sensory programs are designed for youth of various ability levels including differently-abled youth—Saturdays at 11 am in the Children’s Department.
September 21: Goosebumps Parent/Child Book Club. Parents, share your Goosebumps nostalgia with your kids in our Parent-Child Book Club series! This month, we’re featuring Phantom of the Auditorium by R.L. Stine. We’ll have activities and games, and you’ll get a free copy of the book to take home. 1 pm in the 1st Floor Meeting Room
Coloring Contest for all ages: Color a picture and win a prize. Return entries by the end of the month. Entries will be displayed in the Children’s Room. Winners will be notified.
