The City of Danville is looking to improve pedestrian traffic capabilities along East Voorhees Street, especially for those who both live and work in that area. A public meeting will be held at 5 PM; Thursday, September 20th; in the Danville Public Works building at 1155 East Voorhees.
Community Development Administrator Logan Cronk says the city is planning for apply for a couple million dollars in grant funding from the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program. He says the city already knows that this is a need.
AUDIO: A lot of the information is gathered via census data. There’s a large percentage of individuals that do not have a vehicle at their home. There’s a large amount of pedestrians that are walking down the roadway, getting to our high number of employment in the Eastern Voorhees area.
The city plans to apply for the grant this year, hopes to get some good news about it next year, and then see the work done in perhaps 2026. They’d love to hear specific suggestions. Once again, that meeting is 5 PM; Thursday, September 12th, in the Danville Public Works building.
