PSAs – Upcoming events at Danville Public Library – September 22 – September 28, 2024
September is Library Card Sign-Up Month! This year’s theme is Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye. Sign up for a library card in September for a limited-edition Transformers-inspired DPL card cover! Transformers-inspired card cover upgrades are available to the first 300 applicants only.
Rubber Ducky Readers: Join this fun Beanstack Challenge! For every 10 books read, the child will get a rubber duck, every 100 books equal a book, a sticker and a certificate, 1000 books equal a goody bag filled with a book, a sticker, a completion certificate, a stuffed animal, a blow-up rubber duck, etc. This challenge is for ages 0-6.
Diversify Your Reading Challenge: In a reading rut? Expand your reading horizons by completing one or all of our challenges! Finish a challenge to earn a custom poster! This challenge is for teens and adults, ages 13 and up. August 1, 2024 – August 1, 2025
September 23: Children’s Wonder Garden Club. Gardening event for children and families. 4:30 PM in the 1st Floor Meeting Room. This program is made possible through a partnership with the University of Illinois Extension Office. This month, we will be learning about apples!
September 24: Tween It! Tuesdays. Fun programs for tweens each Tuesday. This week: BINGO! Come play Bingo and win prizes. 4:30 pm in the Rutan Room (Former Bookstore). Ages 8-12.
September 24: Wee Wigglers Story Time. Join us for action rhymes, stories, and songs for children ages 5 and under—Tuesdays at 10:00 am in the Rutan Room (Former Bookstore).
September 25: Rainbow Playgroup. Socialization, play, and STEAM activities for toddlers. Wednesdays 10 am- 11 am. 1st Floor Meeting Room.
September 25: Wordy Wednesdays. Puzzle lovers, mark your calendars! Every Wednesday, head on up to the 2nd-floor Reference Desk for a variety of word puzzles. Available anytime during our regular business hours.
September 25: Board Game Day. Stop by the Teen Zone on the 4th Wednesday of every month to play board/card games and eat snacks! 4-7PM in the Teen Zone.
September 26: Anything Tech for Teens. Introducing teens to some of the library’s cool technology, including 3D Printing, 3D Pens, Sphero Balls, Cricut, and a Flight Simulator. Thursdays at 4:00 pm in the Teen Zone.
September 26: Local Author Visit: Beth Walder. Meet local author, Beth Walder, and illustrator, Katie Weston, for the release of their new children’s book “How Special I Am”. This delightful new book will inspire children to speak and think positively about themselves. Meet the Library’s bunnies, Wednesday and Brownie, and then share your own positive affirmations with them. The book read-a-loud will begin at 5:15p.m. with a craft and activities to follow. Five books will be available to give away to the first five families in attendance. 5 pm – 6 pm in the Rutan Room (Former Bookstore).
September 26: Theatre Thursday. Join us each month for a film showing of popular plays and musicals. This month we will be showing a film that helps us celebrate Banned Books Week. Stop in and enjoy the show! *Titles can only be shared within the library due to licensing. 4:30 PM in the 1st Floor Meeting Room.
September 28: Hear It, See It, Make It, Take It: Sensory Story Time. Sensory programs are designed for youth of various ability levels including differently-abled youth—Saturdays at 11 am in the Children’s Department.
Coloring Contest for all ages: Color a picture and win a prize. Return entries by the end of the month. Entries will be displayed in the Children’s Room. Winners will be notified.
