Student Ambassadors Ready to Tell DACC Story
DANVILLE – Danville Area Community College is excited to welcome 16 new members and 3 returning members to the All Star Jaguars Student Ambassadors Class of 2024-25. These students are ready to roar as the newest faces of DACC!
The All Star Jaguars participate in advertising, special events, social media, community activities, and recruiting efforts. As ambassadors, they proudly represent DACC’s spirit and mission. All Stars serve for one academic year, with the option to re-apply for a second year. They come from diverse backgrounds and bring unique student experiences to the team.
“These students are involved in everything from athletics and healthcare to Phi Theta Kappa, cheerleading, eSports, pep band, education, and business,” says Lara Conklin, Executive Director of College Relations and Chair of the All Star Care Team. “We even have an international student, along with local and out-of-town students. They’re a fun and energetic group!”
Acting as student ambassadors, the All Stars lead campus tours and assist at campus events. Last year’s team had the honor of meeting Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker at the memorial tree planting ceremony for former State Representative Scott Bennett. They also volunteered at the Vermilion County basketball tournament, where they helped take tickets and entertained the crowd.
Returning All Star Alyssa Acton shared her excitement about being part of the program for a second year. “I made a lot of new friends last year and really enjoyed being a part of All Stars,” Acton said. “I was able to experience awesome things like meeting the Governor, which I thought was a cool experience! I knew I wanted to do it my second year! Being able to be more involved and also work was really enjoyable!”
New All Star Hope Fandohan expressed his enthusiasm for joining the team, saying, “I want to lift up my fellow students through the All Stars team, make new friends, and be more involved in what’s happening at DACC.”
All Stars are called “cast members” because they apply and “audition” for the role in front of the Care Team, a group of six DACC staff members, including Conklin. The Care Team provides mentorship and guidance to the All Stars throughout the year. The team members come from various departments, such as academic advising, recruitment, marketing, web services, and more.
