Rubber Ducky Readers: Join this fun Beanstack Challenge! For every 10 books read, the child will get a rubber duck, every 100 books equal a book, a sticker and a certificate, 1000 books equal a goody bag filled with a book, a sticker, a completion certificate, a stuffed animal, a blow-up rubber duck, etc. This challenge is for ages 0-6.
Diversify Your Reading Challenge: In a reading rut? Expand your reading horizons by completing one or all of our challenges! Finish a challenge to earn a custom poster! This challenge is for teens and adults, ages 13 and up. August 1, 2024 – August 1, 2025
October 1: Tween It! Tuesdays. Fun programs for tweens each Tuesday. This week: Nailed it! Inspired by the Netflix TV series, tweens will be presented with a craft and supplies, but no instructions! 4:30 pm in the Rutan Room (Former Bookstore). Ages 8-12.
October 1: Wee Wigglers Story Time. Join us for action rhymes, stories, and songs for children ages 5 and under—Tuesdays at 10:00 am in the Rutan Room (Former Bookstore).
October 2: The Consult. An opportunity for your business to get advice over coffee from a consortium of business leaders; both current and retired, willing to share their knowledge. People from all over the business community are inviting you to engage them for advice in a relaxed atmosphere. No pressure, no sales pitch, just a resource for you to access, absolutely free. Starts at 8:00 a.m. in the 1st Floor Meeting Room.
October 2: Rainbow Playgroup. Socialization, play, and STEAM activities for toddlers. Wednesdays 10 am- 11 am. 1st Floor Meeting Room.
October 2: Wordy Wednesdays. Puzzle lovers, mark your calendars! Every Wednesday, head on up to the 2nd-floor Reference Desk for a variety of word puzzles. Available anytime during our regular business hours.
October 3: Anything Tech for Teens. Introducing teens to some of the library’s cool technology, including 3D Printing, 3D Pens, Sphero Balls, Cricut, and a Flight Simulator. Thursdays at 4:00 pm in the Teen Zone.
October 3: Voting Workshop. Are you registered to vote? Do you need any help finding your polling place? Want help understanding a ballot? Stop by the voting workshop on October 3rd! 12 pm – 5 pm in the 1st Floor Meeting Room.
October 5: Hear It, See It, Make It, Take It: Sensory Story Time. Sensory programs are designed for youth of various ability levels including differently-abled youth—Saturdays at 11 am in the Children’s Department.
October 5: Senior Social Hour. Seniors, join us on the first Saturday of every month, for a chance to have coffee and play games together—9 am to 10 am in the 2nd Floor Conference Room.
October 5: Blood Drive. Come give blood and save a life! 9 am – 12 pm in the 1st Floor Meeting Room.
October 5: Lego Play Day with the Chicago Area Lego Users Group. This is a dream program for the Lego enthusiast! See impressive Lego displays created by the Chicago Area Lego User Group. Build your own creation with their collection of Lego bricks. Drop by anytime between 11a-3p and stay for as little or as long as you would like. 11 am – 3 pm in the Rutan Room (Former Bookstore).
Coloring Contest for all ages: Color a picture and win a prize. Return entries by the end of the month. Entries will be displayed in the Children’s Room. Winners will be notified.
