THE FOLLOWING IS A DANVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT RELEASE
The Danville Police Department does not call anyone to inform them of any type of arrest warrant and then request they send, give, or transfer money for any reason.
DPD has taken several complaints from victims who received phone calls from someone identifying themselves as a police officer. These callers often provide names that may be similar to local officers. The callers may order victims to provide cash, money transfers, PIN account numbers, or identifiable information to avoid an arrest.
Always confirm who you are speaking with is a police officer by telling them you will call them back at a valid and confirmed police department phone number. If in doubt call the police department they claim to be from and ask to speak to their supervisor. Many of these callers are clever and may know minor personal information they can obtain from the internet. They are sometimes very convincing with the information they can provide.
Please be cautious when taking phone calls. Most departments only make phone calls when investigating crimes or gathering information. Share this information with the elderly people in your life who may not have access to this post.
Do not hesitate to contact the Danville Police Department with any questions or concerns at 217-431-2250 or you can call the Criminal Investigations Division directly at 217-431-2245. We are committed to upholding the public trust and will do everything reasonably within our power and abilities to make sure our community feels safe.
