THE FOLLOWING IS A VERMILION COUNTY REGIONAL OFFICE OF EDUCATION RELEASE
The Vermilion County Regional Office of Education has more than 50 new reasons to smile.
Students supported by the ROE’s Truants’ Alternative and Optional Education Program (TAOEP) were challenged to incur zero unexcused absences in the first month of school. The incentive? A Royal Donut smiley cookie. Fifty-one students crushed the goal!
On September 19 and 20, ROE Truancy Department staff members delivered cookies to the students at school and encouraged them to keep up the good work.
A sticker on the cookie pouch posed the question, “What good things have happened because you were in school?” A Westville High School student said good school attendance has kept her out of trouble at home and up-to-date on her schoolwork.
Additionally, several students said they enjoy going to school because they get to see their friends, while others said they like to read and learn math functions at school.
TAOEP programs serve students with attendance problems and/or dropouts, providing truancy prevention and intervention services and/or optional education.
The ROE would like to thank Royal Donut for generously donating the cookies, which were another reason to smile!
