After a couple months of bad news in unemployment numbers, following the lost jobs at Quaker Oats becoming official on June 8th, the numbers have made an improvement from July to August.
Vermilion County’s numbers show the unemployment rate dropping from 7.9% in July to 6.9% in August. Vermilion County’s rate was at 6.8% in August of 2023.
For the City of Danville, the unemployment rate has dropped from 9.2% in July to 8.3% in August. Danville’s rate stood at eight percent flat in August of last year.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
Also in Vermilion County, total non-farm employment has increased by 100 when comparing August of 2023 to August of 2024. Looking at specific categories; Government jobs were up by 300; while Mining and Construction, Wholesale Trade, and the Other Services category were all up by 100 jobs from one year ago. Manufacturing, however, has dropped by 500 jobs from August of 2023 to August of 2024.
No changes were shown in Private Education and Health Services, Information, Leisure and Hospitality, Professional and Business Services, Retail Trade, Transportation-Warehousing-Utilities, and Financial Activities.
