PSAs – Upcoming events at Danville Public Library – October 13 – October 19, 2024
Rubber Ducky Readers: Join this fun Beanstack Challenge! For every 10 books read, the child will get a rubber duck, every 100 books equal a book, a sticker and a certificate, 1000 books equal a goody bag filled with a book, a sticker, a completion certificate, a stuffed animal, a blow-up rubber duck, etc. This challenge is for ages 0-6.
Diversify Your Reading Challenge: In a reading rut? Expand your reading horizons by completing one or all of our challenges! Finish a challenge to earn a custom poster! This challenge is for teens and adults, ages 13 and up. August 1, 2024 – August 1, 2025
October 14: Beary Cool Campout: Campfire stories, s’mores, and Smokey the Bear-oh my! Celebrate Fire Prevention Month with this beary fun program. Our program will include camping activities, craft, snacks, stories, and songs. 5 PM to 6 PM in the 1st Floor Meeting Room.
October 14: Genealogy Workshop: Genealogy: Use our newly digitized Danville Newspapers. Learn to use our newly digitized Danville Newspapers (available in the Library only). 1-2:30 PM in the 2nd Floor Conference Room.
October 14: Teen Movie Mondays. Join us on the 2nd Monday of every month for a movie and popcorn in Teen Zone! Teens can suggest and vote on which movie we watch. 3 pm – 7 pm.
October 15: Tween It! Tuesdays. Fun programs for tweens each Tuesday. This week: Break a record. Choose a Guinness World Record and try to break it. 4:30 pm in the Rutan Room (Former Bookstore). Ages 8-12.
October 15: Wee Wigglers Story Time. Join us for action rhymes, stories, and songs for children ages 5 and under—Tuesdays at 10:00 am in the Rutan Room (Former Bookstore).
October 15: Monthly Teen Party: Come hang out for our teen monthly party! Have some snacks and play games! 4:00 pm in the Teen Zone.
October 16: Rainbow Playgroup. Socialization, play, and STEAM activities for ages 1-5. Wednesdays 10 am- 11 am. 1st Floor Meeting Room.
October 16: Wordy Wednesdays. Puzzle lovers, mark your calendars! Every Wednesday, head on up to the 2nd-floor Reference Desk for a variety of word puzzles. Available anytime during our regular business hours.
October 17: Family Bilingual Storytime. Come join us for stories, songs, and rhymes in Spanish and English. 4:30 PM to 5:00 PM in the Children’s Department.
October 17: Anything Tech for Teens. Introducing teens to some of the library’s cool technology, including 3D Printing, 3D Pens, Sphero Balls, Cricut, and a Flight Simulator. Thursdays at 4:00 pm in the Teen Zone.
October 17: A Novel Idea at 7:00 p.m. at the Fischer Theatre. This month’s movie is Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. Tickets are $5 but you can go for FREE by visiting the Danville Public Library – visit today! All proceeds are used to fund the growing programming of the Historic Fischer Theatre and the continued restoration of our historic landmark.
October 19: Hear It, See It, Make It, Take It: Sensory Story Time. Sensory programs are designed for youth of various ability levels including differently-abled youth—Saturdays at 11 am in the Children’s Department.
October 19: Goosebumps Parent/Child Book Club. Parents, share your Goosebumps nostalgia with your kids in our Parent-Child Book Club series! This month, we’re featuring Go Eat Worms by R.L. Stine. We’ll have activities and games, and you’ll get a free copy of the book to take home. 1 pm in the 1st Floor Meeting Room
October 19: Kruger’s Trunk or Treat. Grab your costumes and stop by the Danville Public Library during Kruger’s Trunk or Treat! Visit all 7 locations from 10 am – 1 pm.
Coloring Contest for all ages: Color a picture and win a prize. Return entries by the end of the month. Entries will be displayed in the Children’s Room. Winners will be notified. Adult Craft: Stop by the Reference Desk on the 2nd floor for an Inktober Kit take-and-make craft during October!
Candy Jar Guessing Game: From October 15th to October 31st the Reference desk will have a candy jar guessing game available. The patron who guesses the closest to the number of candies in the jar will win the candy for Halloween night!
Teen Craft: Stop by the Teen Zone during October to make your own buttons with the button maker! Teen Zone Hours: Monday-Thursday 3 pm to 7 pm and Saturday 11 am to 4:30 pm.
Weekly Crafts. Drop by for fun crafts in the children’s department. Available Monday through Thursday from 8 am-6:30 pm and Fri-Sat 8 am-4 pm. New craft each week! This week: Goofy Face Pumpkins
