DANVILLE — Danville Area Community College President Stephen Nacco is expected to resign.
The DACC Board of Trustees is scheduled to vote on approval of a “Resignation Agreement with College President and Return from Administrative Leave” at its 5:30 p.m. meeting Thursday.
The meeting will be in Vermilion Hall Room 302 at the college. Prior to the vote, there will be a closed session to discuss personnel matters.
Nacco would not comment on the agreement Tuesday afternoon. He stated through a cellphone text message that, “I’m on administrative leave and have agreed not to discuss college matters.”
DACC Board President Dave Harby said that if the board approves the reached agreement with Nacco, and Harby assumes it will be approved, Nacco’s resignation date would be Dec. 13. That date is the end of DACC’s fall semester term.
Harby said Nacco would finish his presidency in a “limited role.” Nacco’s previously renewed contract from the spring would be voided, Harby said.
Harby couldn’t comment more on the agreement, saying he didn’t want to misspeak by not having it in front of him. It will possibly include a financial settlement, he added.
Harby said the resignation agreement is one that the “board has decided” with Nacco and lawyers on both sides.
“I just want to settle it,” Harby said. “And everybody’s agreed to it.”
Harby said a search for a new DACC president would occur after Nacco’s resignation, and if termination proceeds.
The resignation agreement comes after an immigration-related dispute between Nacco, who was placed on administrative leave, and Danville Mayor Rickey Williams Jr.
Williams had no comment on the board agenda item.
