Danville Fire Department Releases Reports on Two Incidents

Structure Fire

Incident Date: Monday, October 21, 2024

Time of Incident: 10:09 PM

Description of Structure/Property: 1-Story, Wood Framed Home (Not in Normal Use)

Alarm Location/Address: 1802 E. Main Street

Description of Incident:

The Danville Fire Department responded to the 1800 Blk of East Main Street on Monday, October 21, 2024, for a reported house on fire. While enroute to the fire, dispatchers reported that up to four individuals may be staying in the structure. Upon arrival, firefighters reported seeing fire coming from the structure. Firefighters from Fire Station #3 quickly began attacking the fire, while other members of the fire department initiated a rapid search of the building. A primary and secondary search of the building concluded that no one was in the building at the time of the fire.

Ameren arrived on scene to assist fire fighters and determined that there was no electrical or gas service to the building.

The Fire is thought to be incendiary. The fire is under investigation by the Danville Fire Department. The Fire Department was assisted by the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal. Anyone with information about the fire should call the Fire Department at (217) 431-2350.

Fire Cause: Incendiary.

Injuries: No Injuries.

Tree Trimming Incident Leads to Damage in Three Homes

Incident Date: Tuesday, October 22, 2024

Time of Incident: 5:19 PM

Description of Structure/Property: Residential Homes

Alarm Location/Address: 1108 Glenwood Drive, 1106 Glenwood Drive, 1105 Kohen Drive

Description of Incident:

The Fire Department was called to investigate a report of power lines arching behind the residence located at 1108 Glenwood Drive on Tuesday night at around 5:19 PM. The first arriving crew arrived and met with the home’s owner. The fire crew noticed a tree branch laying over the power lines behind the residence. While moving to the back yard to investigate further, the crew noticed smoke coming from the roof and eaves of the residence at 1106 Glenwood Drive.

The incident was elevated to a full alarm assignment and additional fire units were called to the scene. While tending to the fire at 1106 Glenwood Drive, the homeowner at 1108 reported to the incident commander that there was a problem in their home as well. The homes owner described the sound of something exploding. Firefighters checked out their home and found that the water heater, gas line, and furnace had become charged by the electricity and were malfunctioning. Fire fighters exited the residence and shut off the gas to the home, while setting up a hose-line for protection in case a fire occurred.

While fire units were attending these two homes, firefighters were advised by dispatchers that a third incident was reported from 1105 Kohen Drive. Firefighters went to investigate and determined that insulation in the attic of the home, like what was occurring at 1106 Glenwood Drive, was on fire.

Ameren quickly arrived on scene and cut power to all the buildings. While firefighters extinguished the fires and made the homes safe. Repairs were made to the powerlines by Ameren and power was restored.

The incident originated from 1101 Kohen Drive, where tree trimming work was being performed. A branch had fallen on the line causing some sort of electrical malfunction within the lines.

Firefighters checked the area residences for any additional problems before clearing up the incident.

No injuries were reported.
