Alarm Location/Address: 1203 Saratoga Dr.
Description of Incident:
The Danville Fire Department was called to 1203 Saratoga Dr. for the report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke conditions and fire coming from the rear of the residence. One occupant on two dogs were reported as being safely clear of the residence. Crews encountered fire in a bedroom in the southeast corner of the residence with elevated levels of heat and dense smoke conditions. A second alarm assignment was made, bringing an additional seven off-duty personnel in to assist. The fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished. The residence was overhauled and searched for any fire extension. Ventilation operations were completed to remove smoke from the residence. A total of two occupants and two dogs were displaced because of the fire. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced individuals.
The Danville Fire Department would like to emphasize the importance of working smoke detectors in residential homes. With Daylight Savings Time ending this weekend and when setting your clocks back an hour, fire personnel would like to remind everyone to replace their batteries in their smoke detectors, test their detectors, and/or replace their detectors if necessary. Detectors should be installed on every level of the home, outside each sleeping area, and inside each bedroom. 60% of home fire deaths occur in homes without a working smoke detector. Carbon Monoxide detectors in the home are also highly recommended.
Danville Fire Investigators currently have the fire origin and cause of this fire listed as undetermined. Further investigation continues.
