THE FOLLOWING IS A VERMILION COUNTY WAR MUSEUM RELEASE
Even though the Vermilion County War Museum is usually closed on Mondays, the Museum will be open this Monday in honor of Veterans Day. November 11th marks the opening date for the Museum in 1999. At that time, the Museum’s collection had just started, with a few artifacts, uniforms and displays. Since then, the Museum has expanded to house over 65,000 artifacts in the 14,000 square foot former Carnegie Library at 307 North Vermilion Street in Danville.
The Museum has several new displays, exhibits and themed rooms which have been debuted in the last couple of years. Museum President Larry Weatherford says, “Of course we look at every day as Veterans Day, here at the War Museum, but this Monday is special as we mark our 25th year. Admission will be free and you can see what’s new like the Media/Technology Room, Medal of Honor Hall, Children’s Area, Rotating Exhibit Hall and Gift Shop. We also have special areas for each era of American History. We also have some brochures for visitors to take home highlighting certain parts of the Museum like the Medal of Honor Hall.” Hours on Veterans Day will be from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
