Yes, the big election just happened; but it’s time to start planning for this coming spring. Tuesday morning, November 12th at 8 AM, those who picked up packets to run in the April, 2025 Consolidated Election can bring them in, and they have until 4:30 Monday, November 18th to do so. Vermilion County Clerk Cathy Jenkins says yes, it’s true that 74.4% of registered county voters outside of Danville voted in the recent general election; but she’d love for it to be higher. Not just for the Consolidated, but certainly for presidential elections.
AUDIO: The last presidential we had 73%. Although, in a presidential election, I would love to see us in the 90 percentiles; because I think it’s that important. Actually, every election is important. And if we could even get to 85 across the board for every election I would be ecstatic.
Danville Election Commission Executive Director Sandra Delhaye says that out of the registered voters on their records, it was at the 52% mark last week, but there’s always the hope that more would participate. As for as ending one election and starting on another one, Delhaye says her staff did have time to catch their breath, kind of!
AUDIO: We’re still doing paperwork. I don’t think people understand the amount of paperwork that we have to do for the state. And sometimes they’ll come in and want this and want that. And it’s just really hard, because we do have to designate time to get all of our paperwork done. But yes, we’re taking a deep breath and starting all over again!
Next spring’s Consolidated Election is on Tuesday, April 1st.
