Most citizens who own dogs and cats in Vermilion County will start paying more for their annual registration tags. The County is encouraging pet owners to get their dogs and cats spayed or neutered. The new annual fee for dogs that have been spayed or neutered will be $15 – up from the current $11. The registration tag for cats which have been spayed or neutered will rise from $7 to $15.
If a dog has not been spayed or neutered the annual registration tag will cost $30 – up from the present $20. The new registration fee for cats which have not been spayed or neutered is being doubled from $15 to $30.
Those in the military and seniors over 65 will get up to two free registration tags per year for pets which have been spayed or neutered.
The new fee schedule is expected to generate about $89-thousand dollars in new funding for the Vermilion County Department of Animal Regulations shelter on Catlin-Tilton Road.
Vermilion County Board members were told it has been at least 10 years since the price for the tags increased.
