The first death of an infant confirmed to have COVID-19 has been reported in Chicago. State health officials said the child is one of 13 deaths reported in Saturday’s daily briefing on the coronavirus. State health director Dr. Ngozi Ezike said an investigation will look into the cause of death. With 465 new cases reported today, the Illinois totals are 3,491 cases with 47 deaths. Carroll, Fayette and Macon counties are now reporting cases, bringing the number of Illinois counties to 47 with confirmed COVID-19 cases.
Governor JB Pritzker is mandating new procedures to encourage social distancing in the stores and businesses allowed to remain open during his stay-at-home order. The procedures include additional signage and PA announcements, shield guards for cashiers and baggers, marks on floors and encouraging cashless purchases and self-checkout.
Governor JB Pritzker has activated approximately 50 Illinois National Guard soldiers from the 3637th Maintenance Company in Springfield to help with an Illinois Department of Public Health COVID-19 testing site in Bloomington. The site opened Saturday with medical support from a Peoria-based unit.
