For the third straight month, unemployment has dropped in Vermilion County. The county’s numbers show the unemployment rate falling from 6.3% in September to 6.2% in October. Vermilion County’s rate was at 5.8% in October of 2023.
For the City of Danville, the unemployment rate had a very slight negative bounce. Danville’s rate increased from 7.5% in September to 7.6% in October. Danville stood at 7.2% in October of last year.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
Also in Vermilion County, total non-farm employment has decreased by 500 jobs when comparing October of 2023 to October of 2024. Looking at specific categories, Government jobs were up by 200. But that was countered by a drop of 500 jobs in Manufacturing, and a 100 drop in both Professional and Business Services, as well as in Retail Trade.
There were no changes in Private Education and Health Services, Information, Leisure and Hospitality, Mining and Construction, Transportation-Warehousing-Utilities, Wholesale Trade and Financial Activities, and Other Services.
