The feud between Danville’s Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr and outgoing DACC president Dr. Stephen Nacco and his wife Cindy, going back to an incident in August that led to Dr. Nacco’s suspension by the DACC Board of Trustees that later led to a an agreement that he retire in December, is not slowing down. The Naccos were at Tuesday evening’s Danville City Council meeting. Dr. Nacco did not speak during the public comment period, but Cindy Nacco did. She requested an investigation into what she referred to as Mayor Williams’ abuse of power, and passed out a letter received from the mayor’s attorney this past fall.
But Mrs. Nacco said what really convinced her to speak at the meeting was something that happened just recently. The Danville Symphony Orchestra’s Christmas concert is this coming Sunday. Dr. Nacco is a former DSO Board President. Mrs. Nacco is Secretary of the DSO Foundation. And Mayor Williams; upon recommendation from her husband, Mrs. Nacco says; has been on the DSO Board for about six months.

AUDIO: Sunday night, my friend Gage Womack, who is the president of the Danville Symphony Orchestra, called me. “The mayor is complaining that you and Stephen shouldn’t be allowed to volunteer at the concert.” What do you mean? “You know, there has to be some distance, and he would be really uncomfortable if you were there.” I said, this is insane, I can’t let this go.
Mayor Williams offered a brief comment on the dispute.
AUDIO: It’s not true that I told anyone to not show up at any concert. That’s absolutely false. I have no further comment. I wish Mr. and Mrs. Nacco the best. I wish that we all could practice what we preach.
For the record, the Danville Symphony Orchestra’s “Christmas at the Movies” performance is scheduled for this Sunday, December 8th, 2 PM in the Danville High School Dick Van Dyke Auditorium.
