PSAs – Upcoming events at Danville Public Library – December 15 – December 21, 2024
Rubber Ducky Readers: Join this fun Beanstack Challenge! For every 10 books read, the child will get a rubber duck, every 100 books equal a book, a sticker and a certificate, 1000 books equal a goody bag filled with a book, a sticker, a completion certificate, a stuffed animal, a blow-up rubber duck, etc. This challenge is for ages 0-6.
Diversify Your Reading Challenge: In a reading rut? Expand your reading horizons by completing one or all of our challenges! Finish a challenge to earn a custom poster! This challenge is for teens and adults, ages 13 and up. August 1, 2024 – August 1, 2025
December 16: Children’s Wonder Garden Club. Gardening event for children and families. 4:30 PM in the Howard Rutan Meeting Room. This program is made possible through a partnership with the University of Illinois Extension Office. This month, we will be making refrigerator pickles!
December 16: Universal Yums. Once a month teens will have the chance to try snacks from a different country! Each month they will get to try snacks from different countries, play trivia and do activities related to that country. This month is the Holiday Box: A Taste of History. 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm in Teen Zone. Ages 13-19.
December 17: Wee Wigglers Story Time. Join us for action rhymes, stories, and songs for children ages 5 and under—Tuesdays at 10:00 am in the Program Room (Former Bookstore).
December 17: Monthly Teen Party: Come hang out for our teen monthly party! Have some snacks and play games! 4:00 pm in the Teen Zone.
December 17: Jolly Cookies & Cocoa. (This Class is Currently Full) Join us for Jolly Cookies & Cocoa hosted by the Children’s Department where kids can unleash their creativity by decorating festive mugs and delicious cookies just in time for Christmas! Don’t miss out—register for this fun holiday event on our website! 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM in the 1st Floor Meeting Room.
December 18: Wordy Wednesdays. Puzzle lovers, mark your calendars! Every Wednesday, head on up to the 2nd-floor Reference Desk for a variety of word puzzles. Available anytime during our regular business hours.
December 18: Rainbow Playgroup. Socialization, play and STEAM activities for toddlers. 10 AM- 11 AM. Howard Rutan Meeting Room.
December 18: Teen Writing Club. Join us every Wednesday for Teen Writing Club! Journals and pens will be provided for our teen writers, along with writing prompts. 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm in the YA area.
December 19: Anything Tech for Teens. Introducing teens to some of the library’s cool technology, including 3D Printing, 3D Pens, Sphero Balls, Cricut, and a Flight Simulator. Thursdays at 3:00 pm in the Teen Zone. Ages 13-19
December 19: Crafty Thursday. Stop by the Teen Zone for Ornament Painting! Monday-Thursday 3 pm to 7 pm and Saturday 11 am to 4:30 pm in the Teen Zone. Ages 13-19
December 19: Family Bilingual Storytime. Come join us for stories, songs, and rhymes in Spanish and English. 4:30 PM to 5:00 PM in the Children’s Department.
December 19: Teen Otaku Club. Join us every 3rd Thursday for Teen Otaku Club! The Teen Otaku Club will be reading a manga called Mashle volume 2 by Hajime Komoto. At the next meeting we will discuss the manga and watch the first episode of the anime. 5PM-6PM in the Teen Zone. Pick up your free copy in Teen Zone! Sign-Up to claim your spot!! December 19: A Novel Idea at 7:00 p.m. at the Fischer Theatre. This month’s movie is The Wizard of Oz. Tickets are $5 but you can go for FREE by visiting the Danville Public Library – visit today! All proceeds are used to fund the growing programming of the Historic Fischer Theatre and the continued restoration of our historic landmark.
December 21: Hear It, See It, Make It, Take It: Sensory Story Time. Sensory programs are designed for youth of various ability levels including differently-abled youth—Saturdays at 11 am in the Children’s Department.
December 21: Goosebumps Parent/Child Book Club. Parents, share your Goosebumps nostalgia with your kids in our Parent-Child Book Club series! This month, we’re featuring The 12 Screams of Christmas by R.L. Stine. We’ll have activities and games, and you’ll get a free copy of the book to take home. 1 pm in the Howard Rutan Meeting Room
Coloring Contest for all ages: Color a picture and win a prize. Return entries by the end of the month. Entries will be displayed in the Children’s Room. Winners will be notified.
