THE FOLLOWING IS A DANVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT RELEASE
On December 5, 2024 around 10:24 am, Danville Police (DPD) responded to the area of the 1600 block of N. Gilbert St in reference to a report of shots fired in the area. Callers also provided a description of the shooter who was last seen fleeing the area on foot. DPD officers arrived on scene and began investigating the incident. Officers located an individual matching the description walking in the area of Walnut St and Columbia St. Contact was made with the individual and he was identified as 19-year-old Gregory A.D. Orington of Danville.
During the follow-up investigation, Orington was identified as the suspect and he was taken into custody. Officers located a handgun on Orington’s person while taking him into custody. Officers found where a residence in the 1600 block of N. Gilbert St had been struck by the gunfire but no injuries were reported during this incident.
Orington was transported to the Danville Public Safety building where he is being held on preliminary charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated UUW, and resisting and obstructing a police officer.
Members of the public are reminded that a complaint is merely an accusation; the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. The investigation into this incident continues and no other information is being released at this time.
