THE FOLLOWING IS A DANVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT RELEASE
On Friday morning, 12/27/24, at about 12:15 a.m., a Danville Police Officer stopped a vehicle in the 500 block of N. Gilbert Street for failing to turn on its headlights.
Officers contacted the driver identifying him as 28-year-old Kyle A Smith of rural Oakwood. During the stop, officers witnessed what they believed to be illegal contraband inside the vehicle. Officers further investigated as Smith refused to cooperate and physically resisted them. Danville Police Officers eventually discovered Smith illegally in possession of a loaded handgun.
Kyle Smith was arrested and booked at the Vermilion County Public Safety Building on charges of Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Adult Use Cannabis, and Obstructing/Resisting a Peace Officer.
The Danville Police Department reminds the public that an arrest was made but is merely an accusation and all subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
