WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Robin Kelly (IL-02) released the following statement after Congress convened to certify the 2024 election:
“Today, I performed my constitutional duty to certify the 2024 election. The ability to transfer power peacefully is a mark of a strong democracy; however, four years ago, a violent insurrection shook our country’s foundation. I will never forget escaping the House floor on my hands and knees as rioters stormed the Capitol. January 6, 2021, reminded us that democracy is fragile. Today, we strengthen and uphold the core principle that our government will always be for the people, by the people.
“As we move forward with a new Congress and new Administration, I renew my commitment to the people of the Second District to always serve in their best interests. It is an honor to be their representative in Washington.”
