RANTOUL — A Danville woman has died after being struck by a vehicle Thursday evening on Rantoul’s south side.
Rantoul police said Kristina M. Sherman, 40, was hit while walking in the southbound lanes of Liberty Avenue (U.S. 45) not long after a caller notified police at 10:23 p.m. that a woman wearing dark clothing was walking in the road.
As officers responded, dispatchers got a call from a second person saying they had hit a pedestrian.
Officers and personnel from the Rantoul Fire Department provided medical care until Sherman could be taken to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, where she was later pronounced dead.
Police said the driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
The Illinois State Police’s Traffic Reconstruction Unit and the Champaign County Coroner’s Office are assisting in the investigation.
Rantoul police ask that anyone who has additional information to contact them at 217-333-8911.
