Extremely cold conditions that are forecast for Tuesday, January 21st, 2025, prompted officials at Danville Area Community College to announce that the college will be closed that day. No classes will be held at either the Danville or Hoopeston locations, and the DACC Child Development Center will also be closed.
Some area school districts, including Danville District 118 and Westville Unit 2, announced Monday that their classes on Tuesday (January 21st) would switch to E-Learning.
The National Weather Service extended the ‘Cold Weather Advisory’ for our area Monday afternoon. It is now scheduled to expire at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday (January 21st).
Very cold wind-chill readings – as low as 24-degrees below zero – were posted for our area for Monday night and early Tuesday. The dangerously cold wind chill could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to the bitterly cold conditions. Monday night’s temperature was expected to drop to around 2 degrees below zero. Sunny conditions are expected Tuesday but the high temperature is only expected to be around 5 degrees. And wind-chill values during the day Tuesday are expected to be near 20-below zero at times.
The very cold weather continues on Wednesday when mostly cloudy conditions are expected with high temperatures near 25. But wind-chill values will be around 10 degrees below zero at times. That’s how cold it feels on any exposed skin.
Thursday there is a slight chance of snow, but temperatures are expected to climb to around 30. Friday’s forecast calls for mostly sunny conditions with high temperatures near 30 again.
