Preliminary damage estimates are being placed at $50-thousand dollars in a blaze at a Danville home Monday afternoon. Firefighters were called to 40 Cavalier Court where they found smoke coming from the roof. Two residents and three pets were assisted out of the house by firefighters.
Assistant Fire Chief William Ryan says the fire was quickly located in the attic and extinguished. There was extensive damage to the attic, however, and firefighters remained on the scene for three hours removing smoldering insulation.
Firefighters had to battle the blaze in frigid weather conditions. Danville’s Public Works Department assisted by treating streets that became covered with ice around the fire scene. Arrow Ambulance also provided a crew to stand by. One firefighter suffered minor injuries from falling debris but refused treatment and returned to work.
The cause of the fire is currently listed as accidental, with the cause and origin related to the home’s fireplace and chimney.
