Governor JB Pritzker Wednesday laid out an FY26 proposed budget that is the largest budget proposal in state history. The Governor’s proposed budget is $55.235 billion, a nearly $2 billion increase compared to the FY25 enacted budget – a 3.7% increase.
State legislators must negotiate the final details of the fiscal year 2026 budget – which begins on July 1. The general assembly is scheduled to end on the last day of May, according to the general assembly’s calendar.
State Representative Adam Niemerg (R-Dietrich) was disappointed not only with the budget proposal but also with the governor’s political rhetoric on national issues.
