Thirty members of an Illinois National Guard unit at Urbana have been activated to assist in the state’s COVID-19 response at Stateville Correctional Center. Governor J.B. Pritzker says the soldiers from the 33rd Infantry Combat Team will provide medical support for the prison which is located near Joliet.
The activation of the 30 Illinois National Guard members from the Urbana unit brings to about 430 the number from the Guard who are supporting the state’s COVID-19 response. Both soldiers and airmen have been activated from several units around Illinois to help deal with the pandemic.
