The Vermilion County Board approved a half dozen agreements for the County Highway Department tonight (Tuesday), but board member Jim McMahon voted against all of them. He said the reason is that the Transportation Committee of the County Board had voted to approve them only minutes before the full board meeting. McMahon says that does not give the public an opportunity to review and comment on items.
The county board approved:
- The purchase of a pickup truck for the Highway Department.
- Placement of stone riprap channel protection for 5 bridges.
- Construction of a double box culvert on 170 East Road.
- And the expenditure of $150-thousand dollars to replace an existing precast structure 1.8 miles east of Rossville.
The County Board also awarded $25-thousand dollars to the Vermilion County Museum Society. The money will be used to help promote activities occurring next year when the county celebrates its 250th birthday. A committee has already been meeting making plans for the event.
And the Board declared a vacancy in County Board District 1 due to the resignation of Gary Miller.
