DANVILLE — Two Danville City Council incumbent aldermen were defeated and Danville Area Community College’s sitting board president was re-elected Tuesday night.
Vote totals were not yet in for all races in the city of Danville due to write-in votes for Danville District 118 school board candidates. It also was unclear if all city precincts were in late Tuesday.
In Ward 1 on the Danville City Council, Jaleel Jones defeated incumbent Robert Williams by a 101 to 81 vote, 55 percent to 44.51 percent.
In Ward 3, Thomas Hightower also received 101 votes, 62 percent, to win the seat over incumbent Heidi Wilson, with 61 votes, or 37.65 percent.
In Ward 7, Doug Ahrens won the seat, with 436 votes, or 63.74 percent, to Barry Johnson’s 248 votes, 36 percent. Incumbent Alderman Darren York is moving out of Ward 7 and did not seek re-election.
Also running for council seats were incumbent Carolyn Wands in Ward 2; incumbent Tricia Teague in Ward 4; incumbent Mike Puhr in Ward 5; and incumbent Jim Poshard in Ward 6.
Write-in votes for Danville District 118 school board candidates Thomas Halloran and Harsha Gurujal in Vermilion County, outside Danville, won’t be inputted until retab which is at 9 a.m. Friday, according to Carrie Wilson, assistant chief deputy county clerk/supervisor of elections with the Vermilion County Clerk’s Office.
Four school board seats were up for election.
Totals: 1,854 votes for incumbent Darlene Halloran, 1,642 votes for Toni Towne and 1,513 votes for Christopher Easton.
In the city the write-in votes were 592 for Thomas Halloran and 254 for Harsha Gurujal.
Three current board members in the four four-year terms up for election on the school board didn’t seek re-election — President Randal Ashton (a 20-year member), Tyson Parks and Shannon Schroeder.
For Danville Area Community College, voters were to elect two for six-year appointments — currently held by incumbent Greg Wolfe and Tracy Cherry, who didn’t seek re-election. The other, a four-year seat, was vacated by the resignation of former board Chair Dave Harby. His daughter-in-law, Caroline Harby was the only candidate who filed to fill that term.
The top two vote getters: Wolfe with 2,980 votes and Lisa Martin with 2,927 votes. Martin was chosen by the board in January to fill Dave Harby’s unexpired term.
The remaining vote totals: Laura Williams with 2,906 votes; Aaron Biggs with 1,637 votes; and Amanda Krabbe with 1,480.
