DANVILLE — Danville City Council’s newest aldermen say they are excited to start getting to work and make changes.
Tom Hightower won in Ward 3, defeating incumbent Heidi Wilson, and Jaleel Jones won in Ward 1, over incumbent Robert Williams. Jones almost didn’t make the ballot due to a challenge to his election paperwork.
Hightower was confident he’d join the council because he says he’s on a mission to do more work for the community and bring joy.
Jones said the words to describe his feelings becoming an aldermen are “excited” and “anxious.”
“It’s sinking in,” he said.
The third new alderman elected Tuesday was Doug Ahrens in Ward 7. Ahrens was elected over Barry Johnson.
Ahrens said he’s attended numerous city meetings during the last three decades, but now he’ll sit in a chair that votes.
