Danville Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr. has announced the city will be receiving millions of dollars under the new federal ‘CARES’ Act. He says Danville Mass Transit will receive ‘’just shy of $3-million dollars’’ in additional funding. And Danville’s Community Development Block Grant program will receive almost $600-thousand dollars in additional federal funds.
The money is part of the $2.2 trillion dollars included in the largest economic relief bill in U.S. history. The funds from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, is to help support those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and economic downturn.
During Tuesday night’s Danville City Council meeting the Mayor said he is proud of the way city employees and the community have been dealing with the health emergency. And Mayor Williams also reminded city council members that many of them are not young anymore. He says they should not be risking their lives by spending a lot of time outside – even if it is just to go to the grocery store.
