Danville District 118 School Board members have voted to amend the residency requirements for administrators. Following a lengthy discussion last night the board voted to keep the portion of the policy requiring any superintendent who is hired to comply with residency requirements within one year.
Other portions of the administrative residency policy were stricken, including a portion which said all other school administrators shall live within the geographical boundaries or no more than 10 miles from the geographical boundaries of the district.
School board president Bill Dobbles and Darlene Halloran voted against changing the policy. The change is designed to help with recruiting candidates to fill administrative positions. Superintendent Alicia Geddis says the district has had problems in that area.
Board member Lon Henderson said requiring the administrators to live within 10 miles of the district’s boundaries created an unnecessary impediment. Another board member, Randal Ashton, said he does not think the school board is abandoning the city of Danville by changing the policy.
