Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup has released the name of a youth who was fatally shot Saturday evening (April 11, 2020). The Coroner says the victim is 15-year-old Tearius L. Pettis of Urbana. He was pronounced dead at 7:00 p.m. Saturday in the Emergency Department of Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Urbana Police had been dispatched to 1309 South Philo Road shortly after 6:30 p.m. on a report of multiple shots fired. Police arrived within two minutes and found the victim lying in the roadway.
The preliminary investigation revealed the victim was riding a bicycle when he was shot by a subject who had been standing in a yard.
Urbana Police and the Champaign County Coroner’s Office are continuing their investigation. Coroner Northrup says an autopsy is scheduled Monday at the Champaign County Regional Morgue Facility and an inquest may be held at a later date.
