On a day that was pretty much a cloudy afternoon mirror image of when it was held last year, another Back to School Bash was held at the Vermilion County Health Department, 2 to 6 PM on Thursday (July 31st). The event was open to anyone, even beyond the Vermilion County borders. On the day before August’s arrival, the OSF CARE-A-VAN was offering 35 dollar school physicals and sports physicals. As OSF Care-A-Van manager Lance Thurlow told us, they’ve been pretty busy lately.
AUDIO: Last year, we saw about 40 kids. This year, we hope to see about 60, if not more. We just did a District 118 / Danville High School event; and we saw 50 kids there. We’re just excited to serve the community.
Also outside the Health Department, at 200 College Street in Danville, were numerous service organizations explaining what they can offer students and their families. Among the familiar faces, STEP Recovery Center’s Wendy Lambert, representing the Mental Health 708 Board and Vermilion County ROSC.

AUDIO: Have a good time, see all the resource tables. Vermilion County ROSC is a Recovery Oriented System of Care; and STEP Recovery Center.
Vermilion County Health Department Administrative Service Director Clayton Fauver said that when it comes to which kids at the back to school bash are glad to be there; it usually, of course, depends on their age.
AUDIO: It’s 50-50. You know, I feel like the younger kids enjoy school. But the older kids; they’ve been through the process, and they’re probably not ready for summer break to end.
By the way, OSF Care-A-Van manager Lance Thurlow mentioned that if you have a youngster who needs a school or sports physical, and you missed their Health Department or District 118 stops; you can give them a call at 217-477-4770.
