THE FOLLOWING IS A CITY OF DANVILLE RELEASE
Danville, August 6, 2025 – The City of Danville remains committed to the safety and well-beingof all residents and visitors. Community leaders have collaborated to implement a plan aimed at enhancing safety in our public parks.
While these changes are not intended to penalize the broader community, they have become necessary due to the actions of a few individuals. The community’s response has played a key role in accelerating the development of a program that has been in development. In addition to the current systems in place, we will be expanding the current camera system and enhancing the supporting software infrastructure to better serve the community.
The following changes will be implemented across all City of Danville parks:
• Park Hours: All special event applications, pavilion rentals, and public restrooms will close at 8:00 PM.
• Park Closures: All parks will be closed and secured by 9:00 PM. However, the Danville Police Department reserves the right to close parks at any time if they determine that they cannot reasonably ensure public safety.
• Security Enhancements: Surveillance cameras will be installed in every park. Gates will be placed at all entrances and exits, and the Danville Police Department will oversee nightly closures.
To fund these improvements, both the Danville Police Department and the Department of Public Works will reallocate resources and make financial sacrifices to support the installation and maintenance of gates, cameras, and other safety infrastructure.
Implementation will occur in phases.
1. Signage: New signs will be posted to inform the public of updated park hours and policies.
2. Enforcement: Park hours and rental policies will be actively enforced. Permit holders will be held accountable for any incidents during their event, including vandalism, fighting, or other disturbances. The Police Department will continue to patrol parks, especially those who have rented pavilions or requested a special event application.
3. Infrastructure: Installation of gates and surveillance systems. The cameras will take an estimated 4-6 months for full installation.
4. Integration: Full implementation of all safety measures to ensure a secure environment for all park users.
We want to reassure the community that our parks remain safe and welcoming spaces. However, the City of Danville and the Danville Police Department remain committed to maintaining and enhancing safety measures to ensure that all residents can continue to enjoy our parks with confidence. If you see, hear, or know something suspicious, report it. Reports can be made through the Danville Police Department’s online reporting system, anonymously via Crime Stoppers, or by calling 911 in emergencies.
