It all began on Tuesday (Aug 5th) of this week; the Vermilion County Clerk’s Office has petition packets available for anyone wanting to run for office in next spring’s General Primary Election. Vermilion County Supervisor of Elections and Chief Deputy County Clerk Carrie Wilson says there may be some different signature amounts this time around, and you will find the information in your packets; along with frequently asked questions.
AUDIO: There are different signature requirements; as there are with each election. It is based off of previous elections. So it just depends on the votes that were cast at that, to do the calculations to get the requirements for this election.
Petitions can be filed the week of October 27th, starting that Monday morning at 8 AM. Wilson says, you can wait as long as you like, even until the last filing day, to pick them up; as long as it’s all turned in in time.
AUDIO: And the last day is November 3rd. You can actually pick it up on the last day to file; as long as you have it to our office by 5 PM that day.
Next spring’s General Primary Election will be Tuesday, March 17th. The Vermilion County Clerk’s Office, 201 North Vermilion in the Joseph G. Cannon County Administration Building, is open Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4:30 PM.
