THE FOLLOWING IS A NEWS-GAZETTE STORY BY JENNIFER BAILEY
DANVILLE — Main Street travelers have just a few weeks left before the roadway is expected to fully reopen, as the demolition of Bresee Tower is nearing completion.
Danville Public Works Director Dave Ruwe recently reported to the Danville City Council that the debris load-out process continues.
During this process, contractor Homrich Wrecking Inc. of Carleton, Mich., requested the lane adjacent to the property remain closed as it had for the last few years, Ruwe said.
He said he now understands why they wanted it to remain closed.
“The way Bresee was laid out, the basement actually went underneath the sidewalk of Main Street. So, we’re right up on Main Street. So, to open that lane, so basically until they get that backfilled, that lane will probably remain closed for safety,” Ruwe said.
