THE FOLLOWING IS A VERMILION COUNTY STATE’S ATTORNEY’S OFFICE RELEASE
People v. Aaron Rice 2024-CF-719
On August 8, 2025, Aaron Rice (DOB: 3/9/1996), formerly of Springfield, Ohio, pleaded guilty to Attempt (Armed Violence), a class 1 felony, and was sentenced to 7 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, to be followed by 1 year of mandatory supervised release. The plea and sentencing were presided over by Judge Karen Wall.
The People presented evidence that on October 1, 2024, law enforcement was aware that Aaron Rice was wanted on an active warrant out of the state of Ohio. Agents observed Rice at a local playground when a vehicle arrived at the scene and Rice entered the backseat of the vehicle before it left the area. Officers initiated a felony traffic stop of the vehicle and Rice was taken into custody. During a search of the vehicle, officers discovered a .40 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun inside a jacket belonging to Rice. A subsequent search of Rice’s person revealed a baggie containing .8 grams of cocaine.
