A great moment occurred Wednesday afternoon (Sept 3rd) in the CIMG Danville Radio studios; as CIMG presented a check to United Way of Danville Area with proceeds from the May 4th Lonestar concert in Champaign.
Proceeds from the concert were split three ways between United Way of Danville, United Way of Champaign County, and United Way of Decatur & Mid-Illinois; for contributions to their areas’ Dolly Parton Imagination Library; providing free books for the next year.
As United Way of Danville CEO Angie Lazzell explains, this connection to Dolly Parton’s special program goes back a ways; with a couple of names deserving big time credit for it.
AUDIO: Jeanne Mulvaney started this over, gosh, it’s got to be close to 15 years ago now. When the State of Illinois, and Indiana, decided to start matching contributions; that’s when the big push started. And Pat O’Shaughnessy started it, back when he was on the board with Jeanne.
And of course, we are into September; so the new annual United Way Campaign begins soon, with some special additions.
AUDIO: We have new agencies that we’ll be funding; five new agencies this year, and we have a lot of great ideas and events coming up this year that you can look forward to.
The new United Way of Danville Area Campaign begins October 1st.
