Vermilion County Sheriff’s Police have learned that some remains found near Indianola on Friday, April 10th are indeed human.
Captain Michael Hartshorn says now that they have been determined to be human, a sample has been sent to an Illinois State Police lab for DNA analysis.
Hartshorn is the Chief Investigator for the Sheriff’s Department. He says other details are not being released at this time, including more specific details on where the remains were found. Hartshorn had confirmed for VermilionCountyFirst.com News last Sunday (April 12, 2020) that what were believed to be human remains had been found two days earlier near Indianola. He said then that the remains had been sent to a medical examiner’s office to try to determine whether they are human. And now the results have found they are human, efforts are underway to try to identify the person.
For now, Captain Hartshorn adds the case is being classified as a ‘death investigation’. No information is being released on whether authorities suspect foul play.
