Former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar has died at the age of 79.
The two-term governor had also served as Secretary of State and earlier was a member of the Illinois House of Representatives. His legislative district included Vermilion County.
Edgar served as governor of Illinois from 1991 until 1999. It was from 1976 to 1979 that he served as a popular legislator here in east-central Illinois before becoming Secretary of State.
Edgar served in the House of Representatives from the local 53rd legislative district alongside then local Representatives Chuck Campbell and Larry Stuffle.
