People v. Antonio Munoz 2024-CF-503
On September 5, 2025, Antonio Munoz (DOB:6/1/2001), formerly of Danville, Illinois, pleaded guilty to Home Invasion, a class X felony, and was sentenced to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Following his term of imprisonment, Munoz will serve 18 months of mandatory supervised release. The plea and sentencing hearing were presided over by Judge Karen Wall.
The People presented evidence that on July 24, 2024, Danville Police responded to a reported burglary in the area of Martin Street. Upon arrival, officers observed that an air conditioning unit had been removed from a window and was lying on the ground. Officers saw a suspect inside the residence and issued multiple verbal commands for anyone inside to exit the home. The suspect did not comply and officers forced entry into the residence. As they entered, the suspect attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended. During the arrest, officers discovered a serrated steak knife beneath the suspect. He initially provided a false name, but was later identified as Antonio Munoz. While clearing the residence, officers located a female victim inside. The victim reported that Munoz had broken into the home wearing a mask and sprayed her with pepper spray. Emergency medical services responded to the scene and provided treatment to the victim. Security footage was obtained from nearby residences, and witnesses confirmed seeing the suspect attempting to enter the home.
State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy said, “We are grateful to the victim in this case for her cooperation through this difficult process. The participation of victims and witnesses is vital to ensure that justice is served and that our communities remain safe.” The State’s Attorney also thanked the Danville Police Department for their swift response in apprehending this violent criminal.
