THE FOLLOWING IS A DANVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT RELEASE
DANVILLE, IL — The Danville Police Department is providing an update regarding the shooting that occurred on November 27, 2024, at approximately 2:45 p.m. in the 1900 block of E. Main Street.
Tragically, the shooting claimed the lives of 33-year-old Keith G. Stone of Danville and a 17-year-old juvenile. A third victim sustained injuries but has since been released from the hospital.
In collaboration with the Vermilion County State’s Attorney’s Office, the Danville Police Department announces that on October 6, 2025, at approximately 9:04 a.m., an arrest was made in connection with this double homicide. The Vermilion County State’s Attorney, Jacqueline Lacy, has charged 21-year-old Keshawn J. Cotton of Danville with first-degree murder and aggravated battery-firearm.
Additionally, a warrant for first-degree murder has been issued for a 17-year-old juvenile suspect currently in custody on unrelated charges. The suspect’s identity is being withheld pending formal processing on the warrant for first-degree murder and aggravated battery-firearm.
The Illinois State Police assisted the Danville Police Department in processing the crime scene and collecting evidence.
