THE FOLLOWING IS A DANVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT RELEASE
Danville, IL – The Danville Police Department is announcing an arrest in connection with the July 5, 2018, double homicide that claimed the lives of LaTrey Reed and Taniyah Williams.
Danville Police obtained and executed an arrest warrant for Dakota Patton, 29, of Danville, IL, for First Degree Murder stemming from the 2018 shootings. Patton was taken into custody without incident.

Reed, age 21, and Williams, age 20, were found deceased inside a residence in the 1300 block of Lape Street after officers responded to a 4:15 AM call reporting an unresponsive male. Both victims were determined to have suffered gunshot wounds, and the case was immediately investigated as a homicide.

Danville (IL) – Danville police are investigating a shooting incident that has left two people dead.
Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason said that police were called to a residence in the 1300
block of Lape Street Thursday morning at about 4:15 AM. “The caller reported that a male was lying on
the floor and not breathing,” Thomason said.
“Entering the home police found a male and a female lying on the floor in the residence and both
appeared to be victims of gunshot wounds,” Thomason said. “There were two other persons in the home
but were not injured.”
“The male is 21 years old and the female is 20 years of age. Both are shown to be residents of
the home they were found in,” according to Thomason. Thomason also said that police are investigating
the incident as a homicide.
No one is in custody at this time. Police are continuing to interview neighbors and others who
may have information related to the incident. The names of the victims are not being released pending
notifications by the Vermilion County Coroner’s Office.
