DANVILLE — Graduate students in the University of Illinois Department of Urban and Regional Planning are set to share their semester-long project, “Exploring Coal’s Legacy in Vermilion County,” at a public presentation and discussion this weekend.
The free event will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Vermilion County Museum, 116 N. Gilbert St., Danville.
This project is part of a larger Illinois Coal Workers and Communities Listening Project by the UI’s Climate Jobs Institute. Students looked at coal mines and closure impacts in the state by gathering oral histories and stories from coal workers and their communities to further develop state energy policies to meet communities’ needs
During the event, students will present their work mapping a coal heritage trail through Vermilion County.
