State health officials report 1,551 new cases of COVID-19 in Tuesday’s update with 119 additional deaths. Hardin County becomes the 96th Illinois county to confirm a case. State totals are now 33,059 cases with 1,468 deaths.
The Illinois High School Association board officially canceled spring state tournaments during its regular meeting Tuesday via videoconference. The board also suspended summer contact days but said if stay-at-home restrictions are removed and state leaders consider gatherings safe, the suspension would be reconsidered as would the possibility of allowing some spring season games.
Governor JB Pritzker said he is reluctant to lift stay-at-home restrictions before the number of cases peaks. The governor said current restrictions are working and he would not want to pull back too soon.
Governor Pritzker and Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation Secretary Deborah Hagan have announced relief options for those with student loans. The governor said the state has agreements with 20 private student loan providers to provide relief above federal relief under the CARES Act. Options include waiving payments for at least 90 days, waiving late payment fees, prohibiting negative credit reporting and developing programs to help borrowers get back on track.
