A vote was taken during Wednesday evening’s (Dec 17th) Danville District 118 Board meeting to adjust the pay scale for substitute teachers. One big change is that for single day substitutions; it won’t just be District 118 retired teachers, but ALL retired teachers; who can come in for that one day and earn $190. Director of Human Resources Kim Pabst told the board it was time to make District 118 even, comparable, or better to both county schools; and cities such as Champaign and Urbana.

AUDIO: Now we are right back in the playing field. We are looking to be the same as the Champaign area, if not higher than everyone else. And definitely higher than what we’ve looked at for the county schools around us. I mean that is always our goal; we want the best of the best, and to get that we’ve got to pay top dollar.
Other figures include substitutes who are not retired teachers, and substitute for a single day; seeing their pay increase from $145 to $175; and long term substitutes seeing their daily pay jump from $232 to $262.
