DANVILLE — Danville Area Community College Board Chairman Greg Wolfe said when DACC President Randy Fletcher came back to campus for the first time more than a year ago, “we walked around the buildings and he said to me, our police officers are not armed? I said, ‘no,’ and he said ‘oh, we’ve got to look at that.”
“Here we are a year later, and we’re going to have a police department,” Wolfe said.
The DACC Board of Trustees Thursday night unanimously approved a step it said will make the college safer and more secure by creating a police department for the college.
The college will have its own police staff as other colleges have, officials said.
The college already had moved to employing its own security staff rather than outsourcing to a security agency.
