DANVILLE — The Danville Sanitary District is seeking proposals for one solar project and negotiating with a company for another.
Executive Director David Schnelle, former Danville city engineer who has been with the sanitary district since 2019 and became director at the end of July with the retirement of Doug Ahrens, said they are soliciting cost proposals for engineering and design to build a solar array system on one of the district’s pieces of farm ground.
The intent is for the district to own and operate it, with electricity provided only for the plant.
Schnelle said they are trying to get all the permitting and costs worked out.
It’s similar to what Aqua Illinois did at its water plant off Logan Avenue. However, Aqua doesn’t own that solar array and energy is sold back to Aqua at a reduced rate.
